Best healthy (and delicious) restaurants in Sonoma County
No matter what your dietary preference is, Sonoma County is full of amazing food. Enjoying a decadent weekend away in wine country can easily be done with healthy culinary choices, be it vegan, vegetarian or omnivore.
Here are some of the healthy options not to miss:
Stockhome Petaluma
This casual downtown Petaluma eatery is the heart-child of dynamic restaurant duo Andrea and Roberth Sundell. The Michelin Bib Gourmand they have been awarded is a testament to the high quality ingredients and talented chef. Stockhome is a nod to Roberth’s country of birth, Sweden, and serves a beautiful fusion of Swedish dishes with middle eastern flavors, made with fresh California ingredients. There are plenty of healthy choices, such as their divine seasonal salads (we recommend the Little Gem salad, which is mouth watering) the Falafel Pita Wrap or, for a light snack, the freshly made hummus. They are more than happy to accommodate gluten-free, dairy free and vegan dietary needs. The family friendly eatery comes with casual prices and high quality food, and as an added benefit, they have a lifestyle section with amazing and unique interior and jewelry.
The Nectary, Sebastopol & Healdsburg
With their eco-friendly, plant and flower based beverages and dishes, the Nectary is perfect when you need to restore, rejuvenate and revitalize your body in the midst of all the wine tasting. The only thing technically non-vegan on the menu is honey in a few smoothies, but other than that, there is not an animal product in sight and most is gluten-free.
For the ultimate hangover cure, we recommend The Cure Shot, and why not try a superfood latte or an elderberry-hibiscus kombucha for the road.
The Nectary have an amazing juice and smoothie menu; we recommend the Sweatgrass Juice (apple, cucumber, lemon, mint and wheatgrass) and the Mojo Rising Smoothie. They also pride themselves with a full Acai Bowl menu, hot cereal and gluten free toast with various toppings. Perfect for a cleansing start to the day.
Cozy Plum Bistro, Santa Rosa
Cozy Plum Bistro is a fully vegan restaurant, with a menu sure to excite vegans as well as non-vegans. There are lots of gluten-free options available and the menu states clearly when a dish contains gluten. We recommend the Caprese Pizza; simple and fresh, or the yummy avocado tacos and a crispy kale salad. They also have great vegan burgers with both Beyond and Impossible burger patties.
Cozy Plum Bistro is open for both lunch and dinner.
Slice of Life, Sebastopol
This old Sebastopol institution got a new life when it was bought by current owners Keith and Chloe who turned it into a vegetarian restaurant.
We recommend the scrumptious Sprout Salad or the Avocado Ranch Burger combined with one of their delicious juices.
Lunchette, Petaluma.
For a healthy grab and go lunch, Lunchette is your place. Since opening a few years ago they have become a staple lunch place for the locals. Situated right next to to Avid Coffee, you can easily grab a delicious almond latte next door and then lunch. We recommend the chickpea salad or the kimchi bowl which are both vegan and gluten free.
One of the wonderful things about Sonoma County is that almost everything can grow locally and you are spoiled for choice when looking for locally sourced healthy food, no matter what your dietary preferences are.
