Best Yoga Studios in Sonoma County
Covid has been nothing less than devastating for yoga studios across the globe, and Sonoma County was not spared. Approximately 50% of studios are no longer in existence. As the world is opening up again, it can be difficult to ascertain which are still in business and what information is outdated. Here are the best studios in Sonoma County; a mix of strong survivors and a couple of exciting new spaces to get your yoga on:
Radiate Studio, Sebastopol
This light but cozy studio opened in 2016 by native New Yorker Katie Baum in collaboration with Melody Hopkins.
They offer a mixture of yoga flow, yoga tone, yin & mediation, and also Gua Sha treatments (massages and facials); double up on the self care!
Energize Hot Yoga, Santa Rosa
When Energize Hot Yoga opened 20 years ago, the only offer was Bikram Yoga-style classes. In the last few years, however, the menu has grown and now offers a greater variety.
“Our new name reflects our studio’s vibrant energy, positive strong community and uplifting classes.”
Energize Hot Yoga offers a fun schedule consisting of hot yoga, inferno hot pilates, fusion flow, vinyasa, restorative and even candlelight kundalini.
If you are on a budget, join for a Friday happy hour $10 drop in class.
Revolution Yoga, Santa Rosa
Shoshana Hebsh opened Revolution Yoga in 2019 just a few months before Covid and quickly had to transition to online and outdoor classes.
Now they are back in the small, but warm and inviting studio space and offer vinyasa, yin and restorative yoga, mat pilates and barre. The teachers come from diverse training backgrounds with additional knowledge base in functional movement, Chinese medicine, nutrition, weightlifting and more.
Revolution Yoga also offers outdoor yoga at Notre Vue Winery and Paradise Ridge Winery.
YogaSix, Santa Rosa
YogaSix Santa Rosa is a locally owned and operated boutique yoga studio that offers a variety of classes for all levels including beginners, from deep restorative postures in a zen-like atmosphere to dynamic and intense strength-building sessions that will elevate your practice to the next level. Classes are heated with temperatures that range from a warm 80-85 degrees to a detoxifying 100-105 degrees. The studio’s expert staff will help you find the right class to help you achieve your goals.
Additionally, YogaSix offers private classes, events, and specialty workshops in the studio or on location for things like bachelorette parties and corporate events – think sound healing, and outdoor yoga at local wineries and parks.
Yoga Hell, Petaluma
If you like it hot and funky, try Petaluma’s very own Yoga Hell. This hot yoga and pilates studio opened its doors in 2010 and provides a mixture of hot yoga and inferno hot pilates, which is accompanied by an awesome soundtrack and its very own light show. It’s hot. It’s fun. It’s sweaty!
The Yoga Post, Petaluma
The Yoga Post might be the new kid on the block, but it is the brainchild of some of the most experienced and treasured teachers in Sonoma County. The studio itself is hands-down the most gorgeous studio in the North Bay and beyond; big and open, beamed ceiling, with lots of natural light and a view over the Petaluma River. You can literally sit in boat pose and look at the boats floating by right outside!
The schedule is simple and tight; vinyasa, yin and strength. Every teacher has more than a decade experience and brings their own unique knowledge and style to the mat.
Apart from a regular schedule, The Yoga Post offers Saturday workshops on various topics ranging from a monthly Yoga & Hike in the beautiful surrounding areas, to Alignment 101 and Yoga With Essential Oils, just to mention a few. Check out the studio’s website for more information.
Yoga on Center, Healdsburg
Yoga on Center (YOC) is temporarily teaching out of the adorable Felta School House (1043 Felta Road) due to unexpectedly loosing their lease, but do keep an eye on their website for updates.
Jenn Russo and Katina Knapp have owned Yoga on Center since 2011 and, together with their other teachers, provide a variety of classes for all levels consisting of vinyasa, slow flow, gentle yin and barre.
The Sweet Spot, Sonoma
At The Sweet Spot, Sheila Martin offers a mixture of yoga strength and slow flow on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays at her small Sonoma studio. In addition, she also offers the unique and fun yoga experience that is silent disco yoga! This experience can be booked privately and begins with a guided meditation and mindful breathing, and then moves through the yoga postures. It’s a perfect addition to a fun weekend in Wine Country.
All these wonderful spaces and communities are beyond excited to invite us in to practice, play and explore.
