Stockhome Petaluma Tempts with Creative Swedish Brunch

The two concepts go together so beautifully: Wine Country, and Brunch. Because what better way to wile away a gorgeous, relaxing Sonoma County day than indulging in a leisurely breakfast-lunch paired with mimosas?

At Stockhome in Petaluma, chef Roberth Sundell and wife Andrea Sundell have been impressing diners with their delicious mix of Swedish and Middle Eastern specialties through lunch and dinner, and now, we can feast on Sunday brunch, too.

The menu changes weekly, and there are some very good classics such as hearty steak and eggs, or feather-light quiche stocked with vegetables or meat with dill hollandaise. But stretch your wings, and try these mouthwatering tongue twisters, too:

Raggmunk – crispy fried potato pancakes

Kuku – a traditional Middle Eastern vegetarian dish with leeks, cilantro, tomato, garlic and beans

Kanelbullar – cinnamon buns or, in the Scandinavian lingo, ‘cinnamon snails’

You can also dig into favorites like Swedish beef stew with mashed potatoes, carrots, onions, gravy and pickled beets; Swedish pancakes that are like lacy crepes with berries and whipped cream; Swedish hash, and doughnuts.

To drink, there is Icelandic beer and wine, Mr. Espresso drip coffee, or the must, a signature lingonberry mimosa that’s delightfully tart with a touch of sweetness.

Also plan on taking some dessert to go. The self-serve candy counter brims with a rainbow array of Swedish lördagsgodis bulk candies, like pastellfiskar, gloriously salty, licorice-like gummy fish.

One tip: the casual, order-at-the-counter eatery doesn’t take reservations, and its 40 seats fill up fast. But keep that chill, Sunday brunch frame of mind, and remember that this food is worth the wait.
