Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker

New World Ballet and the Marcus Shelby Orchestra come together in this special holiday production of Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker. Exploring an artistic merger of classical ballet and jazz, New World Ballet’s talented youth share the stage alongside professional dancers, with live accompaniment by the Marcus Shelby Orchestra. The production is choreographed by New World Ballet’s esteemed Artistic Director, Victor Temple (Dance Theater of Harlem, Oakland Ballet, Cirque du Soleil).

Act I is set in a Harlem jazz club in the 1940s and includes all of your favorite characters, from the Nutcracker grooving to the incredible score by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. Act II features pieces from the classical Tchaikovsky Nutcracker and other holiday favorites. Come celebrate the holidays and support a local dance academy from Santa Rosa, California!
