Exhibition Reception: Pushing Boundaries

Calabi Gallery was originally founded to represent works by artists of “A Period of Exploration,” the legendary golden age of the California School of Fine Arts (1945-1950), which was later renamed the San Francisco Art Institute. As we have a large inventory of pieces by artists who studied and/or taught at that remarkable academy, we have decided to mount this exhibition to complement The Museum of Sonoma County’s new show, “Unruly,” which is focused on North Bay artists associated with SFAI.

As each artist developed their own unique style, working in a variety of media, the diversity of the works is somewhat surprising considering that it was a close-knit community. "Pushing Boundaries" features a number of SFAI artists including Susan Marie Dopp, Claire Falkenstein, Bella Feldman, Sonia Gechtoff, Pamela Glasscock, Robert Howard, Harry Jacobus, Walter Kuhlman, Frank Lobdell, Sutter Marin, Robert McChesney, Irving Norman, Nathan Oliveira, Hassel Smith, and Inez Storer, among others.

A reception will be held on March 8 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The exhibition will run from March 1 – April 26.
