The small town of Gualala and the planned community of The Sea Ranch straddle the Gualala River along Sonoma County’s incredibly scenic northern border. Stay in a B&B, or one of the numerous vacation rentals in the area (most offer coastal views). Called the “banana belt” by locals because of its uniquely mild microclimate, this area offers spectacular vistas on bluff-top trails, sandy beaches and dunes, and both river and ocean kayaking and canoeing.
